A history of experience and passion
We have been a family of hoteliers for three generations. Managing hotels is part of our DNA. Our passion for this work and the experience gained over the years in hotel management drove us to open Hotel Metropole. Our management strategy is a combination of heart work and head work, and we never forget the wise advice handed down by our family over time.
Hotel Metropole was built at the beginning of the 20th century and was originally the favourite place of Habsburg noble families. The first postcards depicting the hotel date back to 1912. The hotel was closed for several decades before being reopened by the Czubert family.
Mario Czubert took over and completely renovated Hotel Metropole, taking his career to the next level after successfully managing, with the aid of his wife, Irmgard, also from a family of hoteliers from South Tyrol, Al Mare hotel first, and then Villa Rosa and Villa Venezia.
Closed for many years, the historic hotel in the heart of Grado reopened in May 1997 after having been fully renovated. The management of the new hotel is taken over by the third generation of Czuberts, that is, Mario's daughter, Francesca, who has worked in the family hotels for as long as she can remember and has overseen the renovation of the Metropole from day one.
After completing the renovation of the hotel's ground floor, the lobby has become a modern and cosy space with a café area, breakfast tables and the reception, while preserving its typical period style.
In 2022, the renovation of the hotel’s façade was completed to restore it to its original bright yellow colour. In 2023, the renovation works continue on hotel rooms.
Always appreciated for its sea, Grado has always been called the Island of Sun despite being connected to the mainland by a swing bridge over the lagoon since 1936 and by another bridge over the Isonzo since 1966. The town and its inhabitants have become known for some specific environmental and cultural features, making this area absolutely unique and as popular as when it was the seaside resort of the Empire. Nature here is simple and characterised by sand, blue sky and sea combined with the green of the reeds and pine woods.
Elegance, comfort, functionality: this is what characterises our cosy rooms designed for a stay that you will never forget. Rooms that will make you feel at home and where you can spend pleasant moments. Wi-Fi is available in the common areas. The hotel is equipped with luggage storage and a lift and is built so that it can be used by people of all abilities.
Hotel Metropole is a historic, listed building. Renovation work is being carried out with great care to preserve and enhance the historical features of period architecture. The rooms and bathrooms on the first floor and the lobby and common areas on the ground floor have been renovated. A new air-conditioning system has been installed and the hotel façade has been fully renovated.
The hotel does not have a car park and is located in the limited traffic zone (LTZ) in Grado. The staff is at your disposal to show you all the possible solutions if you come with your own car. You can temporarily park in front of the hotel to unload your luggage: to do so, you must give the number of your car’s licence plate to the reception, so that you can enter the Limited Traffic Zone without being fined.
